An elite orchard has been established to do research on 740 varieties obtained by cross-breeding Hungarian lateral bearing varieties with Moldovan elite varieties. So far, two perspective varieties have been obtained, namely:
• Timofei – a tree of medium growth, medium density of branches and mainly laterally placed fruits. The medium-sized nuts are oval. The endocarp is thin; the yellowish-gray coloured surface is slightly corrugated. The kernel is large, of yellow colour, and can be easily separated from shell, remaining intact.
• Taisia – a tree of medium growth, medium density of branches and mainly laterally placed fruits. The medium to large-sized nuts are oval. The endocarp is thin; the yellowish-gray coloured surface is slightly corrugated. The kernel is large, of yellow colour, and can be easily separated from shell, remaining intact,
with the perspective to be put into production.
